Abstract

A valve attachment for, or attached to the top of, a pipette has a valve chamber divided into two communicating parts, one part being for connection/connected to a pipette 2 and the other part being for connection/ connected to a source of suction. A movable means, e.g. a diaphragm 9, is provided to hermetically separate the two communicating parts. When suction is applied and liquid is drawn into the pipette, operation of the movable means separates hermetically the two parts, so that the liquid is retained in the pipette. By then causing the top of the pipette to be subjected to sufficient pressure, the liquid in the pipette is dispensed. The attachment may include a ball-shaped float to prevent liquid entering the upper part (Figures 2 and 3). The connection 10 may be provided with a rotary valve for selectively communicating the passage 11 with suction or atmosphere (Figure 4). <IMAGE>
