Abstract

A body (3) has a seating (5) for a valve (4) which can be raised and lowered by an actuator (7). The valve has a central passage (8) opening an upper chamber (15) which is sealed by diaphragms (11). A source of vacuum is connected at (9) to the chamber (15) to draw vapours out of the container (2) during filling. The bottom (23a) of the body is applied to the container and chamber (23) is connected by (24) to vacuum. The valve (4) is lifted, guided by sleeve (21) on vanes (22), to admit liquid entering at (19) into the container. When filling is completed the valve (4) is closed and the apparatus is applied to another container.
