Abstract

A liquid flow valve has a radially inwardly extending annular valve seat which co-operates with a movable valve closure member having a conical tip (29) and a frusto-conical elastic membrane portion (30). The portion (30) is thin and stretched in that the closure member is stretched over a disc (27) of a valve-operating plunger (34). The membrane portion (30) not only seals against the inner rim of the valve seat, but moves in contact with it during opening and closing of the valve, thus keeping the valve aperture free of deposit of solids, for example lime from hot water. An annular vent 22 communicates with the flow passage immediately downstream of the valve seat to prevent cavitation when the valve is opened. An upstanding flange extends from the outer periphery of the valve seat, the free extremity of the flange being inclined with respect to the valve seat so that its higher portion is adjacent the valve inlet 42. <IMAGE>
