Abstract

In a process for manufacturing synthetic resinous articles each having a dense non-cellular outer skin and a foamed inner structure of the same material as that of the skin, the following steps take place: the resinous materials (foamed and non-foamed) are extruded from an extruder (10) into an injection chamber (30) in which a given volume expansion of the foamed material occurs; extrusion is then discontinued and communication between the injection chamber (30) and a mould (54) is established; then the materials in the chamber (30) are injected into the mould and the foamed material is allowed to complete its expansion in the mould. The extruder outlet (14) leads via a static mixer (16) and a one-way ball valve 25 to a manifold bone (28) connected to the chamber (30) and leading to the injection nozzle (59) having a shut-off valve. Blowing agent is supplied at 11 and an additive at 22. The central circuit includes limit switches (66, 68, 70, 72). <IMAGE>
