Abstract

197,808. Bennet, N. R. April 5, 1922. School desks; frames; slopes.-In school desks of the kind having stamped or pressed metal head frames and arms, the head frame is formed from a blank 1, of the form shown in Fig. 1, to provide horizontal flanges 9, 15, 16, Figs. 2 and 3, a side flange 6, a side flange 3 with its end 4 offset, and a recessed part 11. The top of the desk, to the underside of which the flange 15 is attached, is recessed to form a tenon with the flange 9, and the flange 16 is secured to the usual shelf. The end 4 of the flange 3 forms a part dovetail with the front of the desk, so that when the head frames are arranged in pairs, the flanges 4 constitute a complete dovetail for the front of the desk. The arm 2 which supports the slope is formed from a blank of the form shown in Fig. 5 by setting up the part 24 transversely and forming a rib or flange 28, Fig. 7, to engage a groove 31 in the hinged slope. The arm 21 is pivoted by a pin 23, Fig. 8, to the part 11 of the frame 1, and a projection 30 on the arm is adapted to engage with the flanges 9, 16 when the top is in its normal and raised positions respectively.
