Abstract

196,843. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). June 21, 1922. Coating processes.-A coating adapted to serve as a substitute for sand blasting is produced on glass by spraying on a composition containing talc, french chalk or zinc oxide, or a mixture of two or more of these and alkaline silicate solution. If china clay be used caustic soda may be added. The dry coating is then immersed in a solution of sodium acid fluoride or a solution containing ammonium or sodium chloride and sulphuric acid. Apparatus for carrying out the process in connection with electric lamps is shown diagrammatically in the figure. The lamps are rotatably mounted on a moving chain 11 and are sprayed with the coating composition at the position B. They then pass through a drying oven 14, are treated with the fixing solution in a vertically movable tank 15, rinsed with water in a tank 16 and finally dried over a heater 17.
