Toothed gearang.-In single helical toothed wheel gearing, thrust on the bearings is avoided by the use of collars with interengaging surfaces c, d either on the wheels or on the shafts carrying them. To permit reversal of motion, collars may be arranged on both sides of the wheels or, as shown, additional surfaces e, f may be arranged on the collars on one side of the wheel. The thrust surfaces may be arranged in the neighbourhood of the pitch point of the wheels or inside or outside that point. To prevent pitting at the zone of rolling friction, the thrust surfaces may be grooved at the pitch circle. The thrust surfaces may be arranged in one plane, or, as shown, may be coned to facilitate efficient lubrication. The collars may be resilient or elastic intermediate members may be arranged between the cellars and the wheels. The toothed wheels may be subdivided.
