Abstract
196,358. Casperson, A. M. Jan. 19, 1922. Transferring designs.-A machine for measuring and marking fabric as it is drawn over a flat table 13 by the rotation of a measuring roller 11 and a nip roller 12 is provided with marking means mounted on a carriage 24, 25 which is reciprocated over the fabric by a chain 28 driven from the roller 11 so that the marker moves at the same linear speed as the fabric at the instant of pressing. The measuring-roller 11, which is driven by gearing 20, 19, 18 from a hand or power driven shaft 14, is geared to a sprocket 30 driving a chain 28 connected to the marking-carriage by a link 27. The carriage comprises an upper part 24 running on rails 23, and a vertically movable lower part 25, which carries spools 48 of transfer paper bearing the desired marks, and is supported above the fabric by an electrically-heated iron 32 which hangs from a lever 38. The instant of marking is determined by a cam on the spindle 44, which permits a rod 42 supporting the lever 38 to drop and lower the lever about its pivot x, the constant fall of the iron 32 first releasing the carriage part 25 to bring the transfer paper on to the cloth and then pressing the mark. The feed of the transfer paper is effected by a rack 44<a> which engages fixed stops 46, 47, the rack driving a pinion 45 connected by a ratchet with t'he paperfeed roller.
