Inking -apparatus. - Means for removing ink from the inking-rollers of a printing-machine, for cleaning the rollers or for removing surplus ink, comprises a flexible scraping-blade held in contact with one of the metal rollers of the inking- train under the pressure of a series of spaced pressing members distributed along the blade. The blade C, Figs. 1 and 2, is secured to a bar D of angle section resting on a rod E, carried by brackets J attached to the frame L of the machine, and can be held raised in inoperative position by catches, such as spring pins K. The blade C is pressed against the metal inking-roller A by means of a series of spring fingers F adjustably mounted on a rotatable shaft G carried in the brackets J. A lever M, retained by a spring pin N, maintains the fingers F either in operative or inoperative position. An ink-receiving trough H, closed in except for a long open slot so that it can be up-ended without spilling, is removably supported in slots i in brackets I on the rod E. The metal roller A is preferably positively driven by gearing, and where this is not possible an auxiliary unit is provided, as shown in Fig. 5, comprising a scraping-blade C, trough H, auxiliary composition rollers 1, 2, and a metal roller 3, mounted in a, frame 4 slung from the machine framework by means of pivoted rods 5 and ropes &c. 8. Means such as hooks 7 are provided for holding up the unit in inoperative position. The frame 4 is adapted to rest on the framework 18, Fig. 6, of the printing-machine on adjustable screws or feet 17. The roller 2 is mounted in adjustable slid. ing bushes 21 and carries adjustable links 19 supporting the roller 1. Springs 24 ensure contact of the roller 1 with a floating roller 15 of the usual inking-train for frictional drive. The rollers 1 - - 3 are provided with loose gear wheels in train with a gear wheel on the roller 15 and with a clutch element for the gear on the roller 3, to provide the positive drive for the roller 3. If the roller 15 is mounted in fixed bearings, the composition rollers are adjustable in slotted bearings under the action of gravity and springs, and the intermediate gear wheels are provided on separate spindles.
