Abstract

195,795. Oldfield, S. H. Jan. 19, 1922. Grips, friction.-A rotatable top platform cf a tripod or like stand for cameras &c. is secured against motion or released by clutching means involving an encircling manually-operated ring. The part 1 of the tripod to which the telescopic legs 2 are pivoted is provided with parts 3 forming a cup-shaped member adapted to be contracted by the ring 9 on to the small rotatable platform 4 carrying the camera. The parts 3 comprise two semicircular walls with their extremities a short distance apart; each is split at 6 adjacent the platform 4 for most of its length and is of a spring nature and converges wedge-like to a thin edge at one end. The platform 4 is annularly grooved at 7 to receive small pegs 8 carried by the walls 3 to permit the platform to rotate without complete separation. The ring 9 has two inwardly projecting depressions 10 at opposite points which rest normally between the ends of the walls 3, but on slight rotation of the ring press the walls to grip the platform 4. The upper tube of each leg 2 is screw-threaded at its lower extremity and is of slight formation adapted to be contracted on to the next inner tube by an internally screw-threaded ring operating on the screw-threaded part of the leg.
