Abstract

195,147. Thibaudier, L. F. J. C. A., and Viteaux, H. Dec. 21, 1921. Tempering. - Steel or alloy objects, such as rails, susceptible to tempering by immersion in a liquid are subjected whilst at a temperature above the critical point to a series of immersions of short duration in a limited quantity of cold or hot liquid, which is proportional to the size cf the objects. The rail f is carried by rollers c which are suspended by brackets b from the horizontal supporting beam a below which is arranged a small tank d containing the cooling liquid. Fastening bolts e disposed along the beam prevent deformation of the rail during tempering. To effect the immersions the beam may be stationary and the tank movable vertically, or the tank may be stationary and the beam given an alternate vertical movement, or both the beam and the tank may be stationary and successive variations produced in the level of the liquid.
