Abstract

Connecting uppers to insoles and soles; welts. -Rubber-soled footwear is provided with a weltsole b, Figs. 1 and 2, comprising a sheet c of fibre, cardboard, or leather stuck to a sheet d of raw rubber strengthened on its under side with a rubber-covered canvas strip e to hold the stitches by which it is joined to the upper a, Fig. 5, and insole. A raw rubber sole h is stuck to the weltsole, and a raw rubber heel i is stuck to the sole, being provided with a filling j, of wood, cork, or felt for lightness. The shoe is then 'vulcanized.
