Abstract

Valve-gear.-The overhead camshafts of a radial-cylinder engine are driven by means of intermediate radial shafts C<1> having at their inner ends bevel-wheels C<3> gearing with one or other of two rows of teeth D<1>, D<2> formed on one face of a bevel-wheel D on the crank-shaft extension A. A third row of teeth D<3> on the opposite face of the wheel D gears with a wheel E<1> on a vertical shaft E, which also carries a spiral gear E<2> engaging wheels G driving the shafts G<1>, G<2> of two lubricating- pumps H of the spur-gear type, these pumps being connected one to the front end, and the other to the rear end, of the crank-case sump, so that the delivery of oil from the sump to the oil tank is independent of the fore-and-aft inclination of the engine. A similar pump J for circulating oil to the engine is driven from the shaft G<2> through a clutch J<1>. Similarly, a clutch connection K<1> on the shaft G<1> drives a spindle K carrying a spiral drive K<2> for a tachometer. A shaft F coupled to the shaft E drives the water-circulating pump F<1>, the casing of which is bolted underneath the end cover A<1> of the crank case. A spiral gear L on the end of the extension A drives wheels M on shafts M<1>, M<2>, the lower of which may have dynamos, and the upper the current distributors.
