Actuating; piston valves. -A piston-lift vent valve adapted to be opened by a railway track trip device to apply the fluid-pressure brakes of railway trains and to close automatically so as to release the brakes comprises a valve member 1 normally kept seated, to cut off the pipe 4 of the brake system from the atmospheric outlet pipe 5, by a spring 8 and the pressure in the chamber 7, which is open to the pipe 4 by the aperture 9. When the valve is lifted by the triplever 14 operating through a heart-shaped cam 15 engaging the stem 12, the pipe 4 is opened to pipe 5 by apertures 3, and to the chamber 7 by passage 10 and ape@tures 11. The pressure of the escaping air beneath the abutment keeps it open until overbalanced by the spring 8.
