Abstract

11,998. Gater, W. Aug. 19. Razors.-The blade 3, Fig. 3, of a safety razor is held between two members 1, 2 having extensions forming a handle 4, these members being hinged at 5 and having projections 6 engaging one or more holes in the blade. Toothed guard members 8, 9, hinged together, embrace the holding-members 1, 2 and have tongues 11, 12 engaged by a slidable conical clamping-member 13. In order to strop the blade, the guard members are first removed. In some cases, a detachable guard for one edge of the blade is provided for use while stropping the other. This guard consists of a channelshaped member 15, Fig. 5, adapted to embrace the members 1, 2, a tongue portion 17 carrying a pivot pin 19 which is inserted from either side in holes 20, Fig. 3, and the guard 15 being then rotated to a position in which tongues 16 at its end can be locked in position by the member 13. The enclosing- portion of the guard 15 is shaped to give the required stropping angle.
