Abstract

11,293. Lamplough. F. Aug. 4 Two-stroke -cycle engines; cylinders, cooling; driving-gear.- Oppositely-moving pistons B, C have enlarged heads B<2>, C' for compressing air and combustible mixture in co-axial cylinders D', E<1> respectively. Air is drawn into the pump D' through a flap valve D' and enters the combustion space through a valve H in the piston B. Combustible mixture enters the pump E<1> through a flap valve E<3> and is delivered past a similar valve E' to a reservoir L, the outlet from which is controlled by a throttle valve L<3>. Combustible-mixture inlet ports A' lead from a jacket space A, into which the charges are fed after traversing the valve L<2>. The exhaust ports open in advance of the inlet ports and are shown at A<2>. The sides of the pistons are flattened and connected by links F<3> to beams F<1> carrying rods G secured to the crank-shaft. To balance the valve in the piston B, the piston C is weighted at J.
