Abstract

Density separators.-In a centrifugal machine for separating fine or light material from slimes, the coarse material is retained in the drum, and the light material is carried away in suspension in the liquid discharge, from which it is recovered in settling-tanks. In the machine illustrated, the slime to be treated is introduced by a pipe H and a funnel D<5> into the rotary drum D. The liquid carrying the lighter matter in suspension passes out through ports C<3> and the hollow end C<2> of the shaft. To enable the deposited solids to be discharged without stopping, the bottom D<2> of the drum may be raised off the flange D<3>. the solids then falling into a trough G. The bottom D<2> is raised by a lever F<1> actuated by a lever F<4>. As it rises, it closes the liquid-discharge ports C<3>.
