Abstract

10,138. Collier, E. W. April 24. Extincteurs or chemical fire-extinguishers.- Relates to chemical cartridges for extincteurs, of the kind comprising inner and outer concentric receptacles containing acid and alkali respectively, the mouths of the receptacles being normally closed by lead disks adapted to be perforated when the extincteur is operated. The inner receptacle A for acid is formed of lead or lead alloy, and is closed by a lead disk F compressed in place by a screw-cap B, the screw-threads being discontinued near the upper part of the receptacle and of the recess in the cap. The outer receptacle G containing a saturated solution of potassium carbonate is formed of metal drawn or spun in one piece, or if of iron or steel, made in two or more pieces welded together and coated with lead or tin or an alloy of these metals. A lead disk E is soldered in position to close the cartridge airtight. A hole C in the cap B affords communication with the interior of the outer bottle G, and the disk E is weakened at one point to permit gas to escape in the event of excessive pressure being generated in the cartridge by gradual leakage of the acid.
