I This invention relatesto fire. extinguishing apparatus and has for its object theprovision of a small and comparat vely nexpensive extinguisher for domestlc, factory and indoor use which shall be so small as easily to be carried: and conveniently operated; in which the charge can be conveniently stored, shipped and handled; wherein the deterioration of the extingulsher and its contents during the idleness shall be a minimum; the provision of an extinguisher whose use shall serve effectivelvto extinguish fires but without lllllll'yto pa nt or varnish or danger of asphyxiation; while further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds. f a In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this application I have shown one embodiment of my said invention, but without intent to limit myself thereto S1306 eparting from the scope-of my inventive idea. The outer end of this bonnet is preferably counterbored for a packing washer 14 and a metal washer 14*, the latter being engaged by the spring 12 which holds it in place and exerts the desired sealing pressure on the washer.

The end of the plunger is formed with a piercing point 24 and suitable means are employed to hold the capsule against the flange 16 at all times, such means inthe present case comprising asprin'g 25 secured to the enlargement 10 and pressing against the capsule.
The bracket here shown comprises a base I plate 30 adapted to be secured to a wall or like support having -at its upper end a pair of spaced vertical plates 31 between which the plunger 9 is inserted, the width of these plates being such as to fill the space between thetop of the bonnet 7 andthe bottom of the head 11. At the other end thebracket is formed with a spring finger 32 having at its end a knob 33 adapted to engage a groove 34 formed in the cap 2. Projecting from the side of the bracket is another spring arm 36 provided with a cushion 35 of sealing material such as rubber adapted to engage the nozzle and closing the same so as to prevent loss of contents of the container. a

This container is filled substantially full of a solution of baking soda, with or without additional substances like certain aluminum salts to produce foaming; the capsule 20 is filled with a suitable acid substance such as sulphuric acid or hydrochloric acid, and hermetically sealed thereby preventing either loss of contents, ingress of moisture or prethe acid capsule so as to removed mature actuation. The construction of the bracket holds the extinguisher in such wise as to prevent accidental actuation of the plunger or leakage and evaporation of liquid. Upon the necessity of use the device is from the bracket by a simplepull thereby the plunger which is thereupon struck smartly upon the floor or some convenient object, puncturing the weakened portion of permit the gradual escape of its contents. The springs 12 and effect the immediate withdrawal of the plunger from obstructing position and seal the bonnet against leakage by pressing the enlargement 10 against the packing 13. The comparatively slowescape of the acid from the small perforation made by the plunger causes "the gas pressure nside the container to remain substantially constant during the entire operation of the device and also causes the ejected liquid to possess a substantially uniform, non-corrosive composition.
This acid capsule is preferably made of lead owing to its cheapness, its softness and its non corrodible nature; It is preferably made by casting or die forming a cartridge as shown in Fig. 5 with a cylindrical wall and one closed end 41 of somewhat greatceives the same,

The combination with a fire extinguisher comprising-a liquid container having a nozzle near one end, a reciprocable plunger-projecting from one end, and a handle at the opposite end, of a bracket having near one end a pair of arms adapted to secure said plunger insupporting and movement preventi'ng relation, a flexible arm atthe opposite end of said bracket to engage said receptacle yieldingly, and a spring arm projecting laterally fromone side of said bracket and having at its free end a pad adapted to cover said nozzle. i
