Abstract

5447. Bowden Wire, Ltd., and Larkin, G. F. March 3. Change speed gearing for motor-vehicles comprises two sets of simultaneously adjustable expanding pulleys arranged so as to dispense with the usual balance gearing. Two driving- pulleys have fixed flanges c and movable flanges c'. Two driven pulleys, secured respectively to the parts of a divided axle b, have fixed flanges a and movable flanges a<1>. The pulleys are operated by cams, screws, &c. g, which act on the movable flanges through bearings m and coact with fixed cam or like sleeves j. The cams g of each pair of gearing pulleys are connected by chain-wheels h, chains k, and rods l, so that as one-pulley opens the other closes.
