4244. Carteret, W. G. S. de. May 3, 1913, [Convention date]. Rope grips. - Comprises a construction of rope grip of the kind formed in two main parts hinged together and provided with a gripping - wedge. The grip comprises a wedge b having a pin-and-slot connexion f with one member d of a shell. The other member d<1> of the shell is hinged to the member d by a pin h passing through registering slotted projections in the two members. The rope is inserted between the wedge and the member d<1> while this member is in the open position shown in dotted lines, and the two members d, d<1> are then closed and locked by a pin i. A pulling force applied to the wedge by means of the eye c then applies the grip to the rope 2. The broad end of the wedge when in the gripping position lies in the path of the member d<1> and forms an auxiliary locking-device to prevent the shell from being opened.
