Abstract

12,525. Grosser, P., [trading as Grosser, G. F.]. May 29. Parallel machines. - The means described in Specification 15,963 / 10 for connecting individual sinkers or webholders 12 with the corresponding needles 1 is modified in that the needles and web-holders are each provided with two or more butts 18, 19, 20, 21 by means of which fashioning is facilitated. As described in the above - mentioned Specification, each needle is supported in a jack 6, pivoted at 3 and having a tail 7 which is operated by a pattern drum 9 to throw the needle into or out of engagement with its cams 29, 30, 31. In the full-line position shown, the needles perform ordinary knitting; when the jack tails 7 drop into a slot S of the drum 9 as shown in dotted lines, the needles are inactive. There is an intermediate position in which a corner 24 rests on the edge of the drum. The needles, in this position, are missed by the cam 29 but are taken by the cams 31, 30 if these cams are in the active position. Fig. 1 shows these cams in the inactive position. This intermediate position is taken by the selvedge needles in fashioning. In widening a plain tubular fabric, the selvedge needles are only taken by the cam 31, forming tuck stitches. In widening a ribbed fabric, the selvedge needles are taken by the cams 30, 31 and form full stitches. When commencing work, for instance the toe of a stocking, the webholders 12, 12<1> are temporarily withdrawn by raising the cams 64, 65. The cams 29, 30, 31, Fig. 9, are mounted on spring-pressed stems and are placed in knitting position or withdrawn therefrom, as required, by the action of slides 39, 40 which are carried by the cam-plate 28 and come up against adjustable stops at the end of each traverse. The slides 39, 40 are provided with inclined cut-away portions such as 59, 60 which co-operate for this purpose with cut-away portions on the supporting-stems of the cams 29, 30, 31. The cams 64, 65 are placed in and out of action in a similar manner.
