Abstract

7336. Thompson, W. P., [Waterman, C. B.]. March 28. Detachable propelling - installations. - The clamp 42, Fig. 1, for attaching the engine to the boat is swung on a bolt 43 which is practically at the centre of gravity of the engine. The exhaust and outlet water pass to a common tube 31 which acts as the rudder post for a rudder 23. The drive from the shaft 21 is taken by bevel wheels 37, 36, so placed that the thrust of the propeller 24 keeps them in mesh. A water-pump casing is bolted to the box 22, the propeller shaft extension carrying one of the pump members. A ball bearing 7 is provided as a foot and thrust bearing for the crank shaft, on which is also mounted between the crank case and the fly-wheel the timing-lever 14. The lower part of the depending tube 20 may be stayed to the boat by a rod which is adjustable for length and has a ball foot adapted to take into a spherical cup fitting on the boat.
