Abstract

1515. Greenstreet, C. J. Sept. 26, 1912, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; stoking. - Consists chiefly of a powdered - fuel supplying- device and comprises also a form of furnace for burning such fuel. The fuel hopper 10, Figs. 3 and 4, is formed with an opening at front and rear extending across its whole width and has horizontally adjustable plates 12 by which the fuel supply is regulated, spaced above the bottom 16. Between the plates 12 and the bottom 16 runs a chain conveyer which delivers fuel from the front outlet 17 of the hopper into a casing below where it meets air entering through an adjustable rear opening 33 and whence it passes through a front outlet 36 into a fan 9. The fan delivers the mixed air and fuel past an adjustable slide 41 into the furnace. A leathertipped slide 23 controls the width of the opening 17. The furnace shown in Fig. 1 comprises a relatively long narrow chamber having an upstanding bridge 5 and a depending baffle 6, the bridge being higher than the top of the fuel-inlet 2 and the baffle being arranged close to the chimney outlet.
