Abstract

Feeding sheets; cutting-apparatus; feeding webs.-In apparatus for cutting sheets from a web and feeding them to a printing-machine, the web is drawn from the reel by feed-rolls 4 pressed together by springs and driven by change-gearing from a wheel on the shaft 26. The web thence passes between guides 8 to a pair of cutting - rollers 7, 7<a>, of which the upper is furnished with a perforator blade 9 and the lower with a groove 10. The rollers 7, 7<a> are arranged to make two and three revolutions respectively to each revolution of the printing-machine, the cylinder 7<a> having a flat 11 to enable the web to clear the blade 9 at alternate revolutions. The perforated web is guided by guides 12, Fig. 1, or by guides 12 and tapes 13, Fig. 2, to cylinders 14, 14<a> of the same size, and driven at the same speed, as the cutting - cylinders 7, 7<a>. These cylinders are separated slightly, and the upper one is furnished with a rib 15, which, as the paper is cut, seizes and feeds the sheet on between tapes 18 to the printing-machine. The tapes 18 can be swung up out of the way as shown in Fig. 1. The rollers 4 are driven by change-gear at a speed depending on the length of sheet to be fed, and the rollers 7, 14 at a greater speed equal to that of the impression cylinder. The gearing for driving the rollers is driven by a chain 23 from the driving- shaft of the machine; this chain is furnished with two jockey rollers 31 on an arm 32, whereby the feed of the sheet may be timed.
