Abstract

21,186. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Sept. 17. Spray carburettors.-In the delivery pipe 12 of a carburettor, a number of Venturi passages a are arranged in parallel, the throat round the nozzle 10 being also of Venturi shape. The outlet from the pipe 12 is controlled by a valve 16 connected with a piston 18, the upper'side of which is subjected to the reduced pressure existing either at the throat around the nozzle 10 or to that at one of the passages a ; a pipe connects the throat to the cylinder. The valve 16 with its seating also forms a Venturi passage. A duct 22 admits air to the underside of the piston. The air supply for the carburettor is direct from the atmosphere through the valve 24, from the crank case through the valve 26, or exhaust heated air through the valve 25. A supplementary starting carburettor 3 is arranged near the throttle 2, the air supply thereto being controlled by a valve 27. The fuel is controlled to the nozzles of both carburettors by needle valves ; if an excess of fuel is supplied to the reservoir 7 of the supplementary carburettor, it overflows into the pipe 8 and to the main reservoir 9.
