Abstract

9498. Schleyder, K. July 8, 1911, [Convention date]. Furnace gases, reservoirs for.-In apparatus of the kind in which a reservoir is provided beneath the blast nozzle in the smoke-box of a locomotive or like boiler to obtain a substantially uniform draught, a deflector 4, Fig. 1, is provided to cause the steam entering from the exhaust pipe 1 to strike the walls of the reservoir 2 so that it is superheated and at the same time deposits grease. The deflector shown in Fig. 1 is of conical form, its base 6 being of greater diameter than the opening 8 which communicates with the blast nozzle, which may have adjustable flaps 9 or be of usual form. In Fig. 3 is shown a reservoir 16 of oval or other section, with a baffle plate 17 secured at two edges to its top to form the deflector. The walls of the reservoir may be corrugated.
