8351. Upson, D. P. April 9. Axial-flow type. -Radial blades 14, Figs. 1 and 3, are mounted upon disks 9, Fig. 1, secured to a shaft 7. Fixed partitions 6 and bushings 11 prevent leakage between stages. Steam is admitted by a conduit 2 to the nozzle 16 of the first stage. The exhaust is received in a recess 15, whence it is transmitted through two nozzles 16 to the second stage, and so on. The length of the recesses 15 and the number of nozzles 16 increase progressively from stage to stage to allow expansive working. Blades. - As shown in Fig. 3, the blades have flat working faces, and bevelled backs. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11,701/01 and 26,454/03.
