Abstract

26,349. Rigby, T., and Testrup, N. Nov. 24. Peat, preparing.-Peat is freed from looselyheld water by pressing, air-drying, or the like, and is then disintegrated; the powder is then further dried to a moisture content of say 50-60 per cent by exposure to products of combustion of gas from producers which are fed with blocks of the dried peat, tar and ammonium sulphate being recovered. A binder such as pitch may be used in making blocks. Specifications 17,436/11 and 24,748/11 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, drying may take place in a Ruggles-Cole or other apparatus by heat derived from waste steam or flue gases, producer gases, or other sources, applied inside or outside the drying-chamber. Lumps may be disintegrated in passing through a drying- apparatus.
