Abstract
3010. Tritton, W. A., Starkey, J., and Foster & Co., W. Feb. 6. Semi - elliptic springs. - Relates to plate springs in which the ends of the springs are adapted to change their bearing- points automatically so as to shorten the length of the spring as the load increases. According to the invention, each end of the spring is provided with an extension bent so as to form a bearing-surface and terminate in an abutment. Figs. 2 and 3 show one end of a semi - elliptic plate spring under minimum and maximum loads respectively. The ends of the spring a are bent to form plane or convex surfaces e and abutments d, so that, as the load comes on the spring, the lines of contact f with the pads c on the frame b automatically approach the centre of the spring.
