Abstract

Mills and apparatus.-In apparatus for grinding and mixing clay &c. by means of a heavy roller n, Figs. 1 and 2, rotating eccentrically within an inclined open-ended rotary drum m, against the inner surface of which it is pressed by weighted levers or springs h, a number of spiral blades a are provided in addition to the usual clearing or stripping blade v to cut the material raised by the roller into narrow strips and direct it towards the outlet end of the drum. The blades a are secured to a cross-bar o carried by arms c loose on the shaft b of the roller, and the blade v is mounted on arms c<1> connected to the bar o. The drum m is driven by a wheel e meshing with the toothed rim c', and the roller n, which may be grooved or toothed at the inlet end of the drum, is driven by means of a wheel f. Inclined screens w, z are fitted at the lower part of each end of the drum to direct the material under the roller and towards the outlet, respectively.
