Abstract

1206. Sargeant, T. C., and Wallace, D. M. Jan. 17. Potato diggers.-Relates to potato diggers in which epicyclic gearing is employed to hold the forks parallel as they rotate. The central pinion A is adjustably fixed by means of flanges A<2>, B and slot and bolt D<2>. The driving-shaft C passes through the pinion A, and carries a three-armed spider C', to which a threearmed casing D<1> is connected by shouldered bolts D on which the intermediate pinions E are mounted. A collar D<2> bears on the flanges A<2>, B. On long studs G in the casing D<1> are mounted sleeves carrying the outer pinions G<2>, the tine sockets G<4>, and bevelled disks G<5> fitting the casing and the spider. The tines G<3> are straight, and there are preferably only three sets of them. The sleeves G<1> may be interchangeably connected to the pinions G<2>, and may carry different numbers and forms of tines. The apparatus is set to one side of the potato drill; as described in Specification 20,525/09.
