[Addition to 13,108/10.] Processes for reduction of grain.-In an improvement on the process and apparatus for crushing malt described in the parent Specification, the groats and envelopes are separated after the first break M I and treated separately. The envelopes tail from the upper part of the double sieve I and pass to the second break S II. The groats which tail from the lower part of the sieve I, from which the primary flour is discharged at 3, are led to the second break G II, the chop being again sifted to separate secondary flour from the groats, which are again ground at G III. A double sieve follows the second break S II, and separates the envelopes at 6, and the tertiary flour at 5, from the groats consisting chiefly of the hard points of the envelopes. These are subjected to a third grinding at S III. Each of the three-roll sets may be. replaced by two pairs.
