Abstract

21,679. British Northrop Loom Co., [Northrop Loom Co.]. Sept. 19. Shuttles, changing bobbins and the like in, automatically.-In conjunction with a rotary feeder, a stationary magazine having upper and lower pairs of parallel and inclined supports F<4>, F<5>, Fig. 1, connected by uprights F<2>, F<3> is used, projections a<11> on the tops of removable upright skeleton cages A, each holding several bobbins, resting on ledges f<2> on the upper supports, so that the cages can slide along the inclined supports into guideways in the supports F<3>, between which they drop down step by step, the bobbins being successively removed from a cage, and transferred into the rotary feeder by an inserter H, h<2> operated by the transferrer C. Fingers g<1>, g<2> on a fixed arm G engage beneath the lowest bobbin in a cage, and thus support the cage until the last bobbin has been removed therefrom, whereupon the cage leaver the magazine and another cage comes into action. The elongated upper edge h<1> of the inserter engages the bobbin next above the one being inserted into the rotary feeder, and temporarily supports this bobbin. The cages comprise rectangular frames having seats a<1>, Fig. 4, at one end for the bobbin butts, and a cross-bar a<2> provided with seats a<3> and spring latches a' for the bobbin tips, the weft ends passing around notches a<6> in the end a<5> of the frame and being held by light spring clips a<7>. A disk on the rotary feeder is provided with spring wire weft-holders m<1>, m<3>, m<4> having sharpened tips m<6> to engage the weft ends on the cages, whereby the weft ends are disengaged from holders on the cages and held clipped by parts of the wire holders in a groove m in the disk M. After the weft ends have been cut, the severed ends hanging down from the wire holders are automatically removed by means of a segmental plate 75, which normally just clears the bends m<3> of two or more of the wire holders. When the transferrer is depressed, a cam-lug engages the bevelled end of a rod carrying the plate 75, thus moving the rod and plate 75 laterally against spring action, the plate 75 engaging the bends m<3> and pushing the corresponding wire holders outwards to release any weft ends hanging therefrom.
