Abstract

17,937. British Northrop Loom Co., [Northrop Loom Co.]. July 28. Shuttles, changing bobbins and the like in, automatically.-All the spare bobbins or weftcarriers D, Fig. 3, but one are supported vertically with their butt ends resting upon a flat stationary horizontal plate E, and they fit in recesses a in an horizontal rotary feeder F, whereby they are spaced apart and successively moved into position above an opening b in the plate E, through which they successively fall butt-end first, being then guided by a shoot G into a holder, whence they are transferred by the transferrer B into the shuttle. Each time the transferrer returns to normal position, it operates special mechanism for moving the rotary feeder bv one step to cause a fresh weft-carrier to fall through the aperture b into the holder, where it is retained by spring-controlled plates L, Figs. 3 and 6. The tips of the spare weft-carriers are engaged by spring-controlled bent-wire retainers S, whereby the carriers are steadied, and, when brought into position over the discharge opening b, are projected downwards therethrough. The weft ends are secured to studs on an horizontal ring X supported from the feeder F, and the guide-shoot G has a thread slot Z flared at the top to receive the weft end from a weft-carrier dropping through the shoot G, the lower end of the slot being diverted inwards at y to prevent the weft end from sagging down into the path of the picker. A pusher Q, conforming in shape to that of the weft-carrier butt and the weft, is pivoted to the transferrer B, and is normally held in an inclined position by a spring R, but is moved into an horizontal position when the transferrer descends as the pusher first comes into contact with the weft-carrier butt, a spring- upheld tip guide plate P preventing longitudinal thrust of the descending weft - carrier, which is thus moved squarely, and, by encountering the usual incline O, correctly positions the shuttle. A rearwardly-extending lip p on the front plate L extending over the tip guide P supports the tip of the weft-carrier until it contacts with the spent weft-carrier in the shuttle.
