Abstract
8413. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. June 5, 1909, [Convention date]. Recoil apparatus. - Relates to fluid-pressure brakes for ordnance provided with means to regulate the length of recoil, and consists in providing grooves in the outer cylinder for the escape of liquid corresponding to the shortest recoil, and perforations in the piston, the section of which is adjustable from outside the cylinder, so that the perforations are closed for the shortest recoil and are proportionately opened for longer recoils. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the cylinder A is attached to the spur E of the gun barrel, and the piston B and hollow pistonrod B' are attached to the cover F of the gun slide carrier. A hollow rotatable cylinder C is arranged within the rod B', and a throttling- rod D projects into the cylinder C. Short grooves a<1> are provided in the cylinder A to allow the liquid to pass from one side of the piston to the other, and the piston has perforations b<3> which are in alinement with similar perforations c<5> in the head c<2> of the cylinder C and lead to the annular space c<4>. By rotating the cylinder C, the perforations b<3>, c<5> may be moved partially or completely out of line with each other. In operation, the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1 when set for the longest recoil; the liquid then passes through the grooves a' and also through the perforations b<3>, c<5>, and the annular space c<4>. The space c<4> is gradually throttled by means of the rod D. For the shortest recoil, the perforations b<3>, c<5> are placed out of alinement, and the recoil then ceases when the piston B passes the ends of the grooves a<1>. To obtain a smooth running-out with any length of recoil, an annular space b<2> is provided, which communicates by passages b<4> with the cylinder A, and by passages c<7> with the space c<3>. A non-return valve G and grooves c<6> of small sectional area are provided in the cylinder C. In a modification, the cylinder C is arranged to move longitudinally to open and close the openings b<3>, c<5> for regulating the length of recoil.
