Abstract

3482. Challis, C. E. Feb. 12. [Addition to 9564/09.] Cutting and slicing vegetables &c.-The slicing-machine described in the parent Specification is provided with means for regulating the thickness of the cut slice and for the rapid detachment of the parts for cleaning. The fence or gauge L is provided with a recess containing a spring or rubber buffer N. The distance between the fence and the blade K is varied to regulate the thickness of the slice by rotating the shaft after the non-rotatable collar J has been slid over the nut G, the collar being shaped to fit over the nut and thus lock it against rotation. The collar is held in its end positions by a spring catch which engages recesses therein. The parts of the machine can be detached for cleaning purposes by removing the nut. A collar H with a D-shaped aperture fitting on a flattened portion of the shaft prevents the normal rotation of the nut from being retarded. A guard-plate M having a peripheral flange rotates with the gauge, and prevents jamming of the cut slice between the knife and gauge.
