Abstract

18,557. Cavileer, W. N. Sept. 10, 1908, [Convention date]. Plumb - bobs. - A combined plumb-bob and chalk-line holder contains a reel 7 upon which the line is wound. The hollow shaft 6 of the reel has an angular bore into which the spindle 22 fits, so that the reel may be rotated by the crank 19. This spindle 22 is furnished with a sharp point so that it may be withdrawn and used as a fastener, as shown in Fig. 1. A wiper 13, in the form of a small sleeve of cloth removes superfluous chalk from the line. The chalk 17 is contained in the hollow body of the bob. The tip 4 of the bob is hollow and filled with mercury 5 to increase the tendency of the bob to remain vertical.
