Abstract

18,207. Wolf, A. Aug. 7, 1908, [Convention date]. Condenser systems ; surface condensers ; combined surface and,jet condensers.-The supply of water for ceutrifugal air pumps of the type in which water, discharged by an impeller, acts as the exhausting-agent, is obtained either from the cooling-water supply pipe or from the pipe through which water of condensation is withdrawn from the condenser. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the water used in a centrifugal air-pump f is withdrawn from the circulating-water supply-pipe c by a pipe g and is returned after use by a pipe c<1>. A jet device or a constriction k in the pipe c enables the circulating-pump e to deal with the water from the pump f. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the supply is withdrawn by a pipe h from an equalizing-tank i, to which water of condensation is led by a pipe l leading from the discharge of a pump f<3> which removes water of condensation from the condenser. The discharge pipe f<2> from the airpump f also leads to the tank i. A pipe m provided with a float valve p allows the return of water from the tank i to the condenser. The returned water showers over the tubes and aids in the condensation of the steam. An equalizing-tank may also be used in connexion with the arrangement in which the water supply is obtained from the circulating- water system.
