Emergency - exit fastenings. - R e - lates to means for rendering inoperative the external handle 3 of panic bolts 1 on the door of a theatre, school, or other public building, in such a manner that the withdrawal of the bolts by the ordinary crush-bar 2 is not interfered with. The boltoperating spindle 4 carries a toothed wheel 10, which normally engages a toothed wheel 8 on the knob spindle 5. On inserting a key in the keyhole to operate the lever locking-mechanism 12, 13, the slide 11 can be raised, and carries with it the wheel 8 out of engagement with the wheel 10, as shown in Fig. 4.
