Abstract

3060. Christie, H. A. H. Feb. 8. Eyepieces.-In four-lens erecting-eyepieces for telescopes, microscopes, &c., the field lens 1 is made of greater focal length than usual, and the second meniscus lens 2, of comparatively short focal length, is placed slightly beyond the first stop 5 and at, or near, the principal focus of the lens 1 to form an image of about the same size as that formed by this field lens. The conjugate foci are about equidistant on either side of the lens 2, which may be made as a doublet to reduce spherical aberation. The third lens 3, which with the eye lens 4 forms a negative combination, preferably consists of two meniscus components, as shown. The eyepiece may be positive or negative, and is much shorter than usual. Constructional data are given.
