Abstract

27,724. Pelterie, R. Esnault-. Dec. 31, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Elastic-fluid turbines.-The explosive mixture is admitted to the chamber A at both ends b<1>, b<2>, the admission being controlled by exceedingly light valves d', d<2>, such as described in Specification No. 26.610, A.D. 1907, which are operated by the difference of pressure in the inlets b<1>, b<2> and the chamber A. A charge exploded by the igniter e<1> causes a compression wave to pass along the chamber and compress the explosive mixture at the other end, causing it also to explode. This in turn compresses a fresh charge, which has been drawn in through the valve d<1> because of the fall in pressure behind the wave, and the cycle of operations is recommenced. The chamber is of such dimensions that an anti-node is formed opposite the outlet f, and consequently a stream of gas at a constant pressure is delivered to the turbine h. In a modification, a light piston situated at about the middle of the chamber, moves with the compression wave and opens alternately the ends of the chamber to the outlet.
