Abstract

Filtering oils; straining liquids.-Oil is poured into a compartment a of a tank A, passes through an opening m, which may be regulated by means of a sliding plate, into a compartment a<1>, and rises upward through an inclined or horizontal sheet N of perforated metal or gauze. It flows through the pipes W<1>, W into the tank B beneath the spreading- plate O, and rises through wire-gauze trays P of increasing fineness. The tank B is initially supplied with water. The purified oil is drawn off from the compartment C, which communicates with the tank B through an opening D. Tubes R are formed or fixed at the centre of the trays and of the spreading-plate and are threaded on a central rod S, so that they may act as distance-pieces for the trays. In a modification, the spreading-plate is fixed to the lowest tray which rests on brackets, and the other trays are provided with bracket feet which act as distance-pieces. The compartment C may be a part of the tank B separated from the rest by a partition. Steam coils may be provided to heat the tanks A, B.
