Abstract

17,444. Preston, W. R., and Peckitt, R. G. July 30. Stays; hinging, methods of.-Relates to the stanchions with which timber and like trucks are provided to secure the load, of the type arranged to fold down n longitudinally of the vehicle or to drop down vertically so as not to project above the permanent sides or floor. Several constructions are described: (1) The stanchions a, Fig. 1, are pivoted to the underframe c and to a bracket d and are supported in the raised position by an extended part d<1> of the bracket d, to which they may be secured by pins f, latches, &c. The extended part d' strengthens the side of the wagon. (2) The stanchion is provided with a slot o, Fig 5, through which passes a pin p, secured to the underframe c and a bracket q, and is secured in the vertical position against the bracket t by a pin and slot r, s. The lower end of the stanchion is so shaped that it is capable of turning about the pin p when raised. (3) The stanchion is provided with two pins u, v, Fig. 8, adapted to slide on a bracket w, having a slot x for one stud and a recess y for the other. (4) A stud z, Fig. 11, on the stanchion a, can slide in a slot in a part 1 of the bracket which extends above the other part 2 so that the stanchion can be folded down on the part 2.
