Stoppers, bail and bayonet-joint and like; washers; capsules and the like.-In a stopper which is pressed down on the mouth of the bottle by the engagement of inclines with a pivoted bail, the recesses b, Fig. 1, which receive the inturned ends of the bail g are made shallower at the point c, so as to facilitatethe removal of the stopper for cleaning &c. The neck of the bottle is recessed at h, Fig. 4, or provided with a projection to hold the stopper f while pouring &c. Where the neck is of metal, the ends of the bail may enter lugs r, Figs. 17 and 18, or metal thimbles s, Fig. 21. The stopper is sealed by a wire x, Fig. 23, passing through a hole w in one wing of the stopper and secured by a metal seal y. A ring 3, Fig. 24, of leather, cork, &c. seated in a recess in the stopper may be used instead of the usual sealing-disk.
