Abstract

4194. Eyre, W. J., and Parkes, E. A Feb. 20. Draught-excluders.-A padded draught-excluding strip is carried by lath arms pivoted to lugs on the door. The lath arm on the hinged side of the door swings freely on its pivot, while the lath arm c on the opening side of the door is rigidly secured to a spring-wound spindle b. The spindle turns in one of the lugs and is secured also to a cam-plate having tappets r, t of different lengths. The ends f, j of a spring d are secured respectively to the lug and cam-plate. As the door closes, the long tappet r comes into contact with a standard q fastened to the door jamb, and moving along the under face of the standard thereby causes the revolution of the spindle with the subsequent downward movement of the lath arm c. When the long tappet r has moved to the end of its stroke the short tappet t engages the inner contact face u on the standard, and, travelling along that face, causes a further downward movement of the strip. Fig. 6 shows the completely closed position of the door and draught-excluding strip. When the door is opened, the pressure of the tappet t against the shoulder v causes the spindle to revolve under the action of the spring, and the lath-arm and strip are swung up clear of the floor.
