Abstract
6818. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. March 21. Vacuum tubes.-Each graphite anode 3 of a mercury-vapour tube is in a part of the tube surrounded by a conductive shell 9, and is connected to the shell, in order to keep the space round the anode at the same potential as the anode. The shell may be of copper, supported by a glass rod 13 and adjustable screws 15 of non- conductive material such as fibre. For proper ventilation, it is open at the top, or perforated as shown. The object of the device is to prevent discharges directly between the two anodes of a rectifier, or from an anode to the glass wall.
