Shaft couplings; universal joints.-Relates to a yielding coupling, which admits slight inclination of one shaft with respect to the other, and is applicable for use in the transmission gear of automobiles. To the driving and driven shafts d, c are attached plates a, b connected by spherical bosses 1, 2 and a spherical-headed screw f, forming a ball-and-socket joint. In annular grooves 3, 4 are regularly disposed triangular teeth or lugs 5, 6 placed alternately on each plate a, b. In the space between each two teeth is placed a spring g with disks h, h<1>, these parts being preferably threaded on a split ring j which is accommodated by recesses k in the teeth. The construction may be modified by using caoutchouc plugs instead of the coiled springs, or preferably a moulded disk may be used having recesses or apertures arranged to fit the teeth.
