Abstract

7456. Phillips, H. P., Phillips, G. A., and Baker, F. R. April 8. Angle-pieces dc.; stopping tubes.-In a methol of attaching tubes to other tubes or fittings, a dished metal washer 1 of the required shape, formed with a central hole and serrated edges 3, is inserted in the end of the tube and flattened and expanded by tightening up a screw and nut, as in Fig. 2, or otherwise. In a modified form, Fig. 9, the washer 17 is made deeper and a screw-threaded bolt, or a tapering pommel 16 with a central tappe hole, is forced in. In connecting the end of one tube to the side of another at right-angles, the stem 4 passes through holes in the cross-tube and has a knob screwed on to it. When the .tubes are square, turning is prevented by a washer 13, formed with projections 15, which is inserted between the washer 1 and the cross-tube, the projections 15 being pressed into the face of the crosstube on tightening up. In the case of closejointed tubes, an external inexpansible ferrule is applied to the end of the tube. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of one or more serrated washers in conjunction with plain washers.
