Abstract

7036. Weiss, A. April 3. Distributing.-Comprises a motor system with electric propulsion in which power is transmitted from the motor to the car wheels through suitablyarranged electric machines, the object being to regulate the speed of the car without the use of change and differential gearing. The prime-mover 1 is coupled with the armature 8 of a stationary dynamo 9, and also with the revoluble magnet systems 4, 5 of two other dynamos 6, 7. The armatures 10, 11 of these dynamos are independent of each other, and are directly connected with the car wheels 12. The machines are self-exciting, and the magnet windings of all the machines are arranged in series, and contact-rings 15, 16 are provided for taking the current from the machines 6, 7. The machines are so arranged that the voltage of the dynamos 6, 7, which drive the car wheels, is greater than that of the fixed dynamo 9 and of opposite sign. The speed is regulated by the switch 18, which controls the number of excitation windings 17 of the machine 9. When the voltage of the machine 9 is diminished, the speed of the car increases, and vice versa. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the armatures 8, 10, 11 of all the machines are rigidly connected to the motor shaft, while the magnet systems 4, 5 are connected by gearing with the car wheels 12. Contact-rings 25, 26 are provided for collecting the current from the machines 6, 7. The machine 9 is excited from an outside source 27, and a regulating-resistance 28 controls the current supplied, and thus indirectly regulates the speed.
